The Institute of Psychiatry

What is the Institute of Psychiatry?

The independent evaluation partner for Time to Change is the Institute of Psychiatry (IoP), King’s College London. It is a major international centre for the evaluation of stigma and discrimination in relation to mental health and has a strong record of involving service users in evaluation.

The evaluation team includes:

  • Professor Graham Thornicroft (evaluation of stigma and discrimination)
  • Dr Diana Rose (service user evaluation and social scientist)
  • Dr Claire Henderson (scientific coordinator)
  • Dr Paul McCrone (health economics)
  • Dr Morven Leese (medical statistician)
  • Dr Ann Law (research administration)
  • Dr. Kirsty Little and Dr. Sara Evans-Lacko (postdoctoral researchers)
  • Ms Elly Lewis-Holmes and Jillian London (research workers).

IoP Involvement in Time to Change

The IoP evaluation team will be in charge of gathering information and measuring outcomes of the Time to Change activities. It will use the information it gathers to assess the overall impact of the Time to Change programme.

These results will then form an evidence base for future anti-stigma campaigns.

It will use a combination of surveys for the whole population, and targeted assessments for particular groups to assess the impact of Time to Change. They will measure knowledge, attitudes and behaviour and how they change over time.

This evaluation will increase understanding of how to intervene most effectively to reduce stigma and discrimination.
