Celebrity advertising

Throughout our campaigns, celebrities have helped us deliver our messages, appearing in ads in newspapers and magazines, on the London Underground and online.

We launched our campaign in 2009 with support from Stephen Fry, Ruby Wax, Patsy Palmer and Alastair Campbell. In summer 2009, Ulrika Jonsson lent her support in a new ad.

In 2010, Frank Bruno talked about his fight against depression while Trisha Goddard told how the public’s reaction to her breast cancer diagnosis was totally different to the reaction she got when she had a breakdown and was admitted to hospital.

Finally, to coincide with the Ashes, we launched a new ad featuring cricketer Marcus Trescothick in December 2010.

Using celebrities in our advertising helps us to engage the public and the media in an issue that they might not otherwise pay attention to, and deliver the message that mental health problems can happen to anyone.  However, we also make sure we feature the stories of ‘everyday people’ as well as celebrities, whether it be through advertising or real-life stories in the media.
