Roadshows
Following two successful bursts of our campaign in January and the summer 2009, we took Time to Change to the streets to engage people face to face.
The Time to Change Roadshow set off from Bournemouth, near the Liberal Democrat party conference, in September 2009
and visited shopping centres, high streets and political conferences all around England.
The roadshows were run in partnership with a range of local host organisations – from mental health trusts and PCTs to local Mind associations.
The main aim of the roadshows was to get people talking about mental health. People with direct experience of mental health problems were a big and vital part of the teams, with over 100 volunteers working hard during the 12 events to talk to the public about their experiences.
With celebrity appearances at several events, the tour was a great success, with partners working together to create a roadshow that has really got the public talking about mental health discrimination.
Throughout the roadshows our pledge was a big focus, with 2000 people adding their photos to our wall of pledges at the 12 events. All in all, we estimate that we engaged around 4000 people in conversation across all the events.
We’re hoping to run more roadshows involving even more people with experience of mental health problems in 2011 so watch this space.
In the meantime, find out what other events are going on near you.
