Boxer Frank Bruno, television presenter Trisha Goddard and comedian Ruby Wax have joined a host of other well-known celebrities including Patsy Palmer, Mel C, Gok Wan and Trevor Nelson in making a pledge to help end mental health prejudice for the next exciting stage of the Time to Change [1] campaign, which begins on Monday April 19.
On the day that Iris Robinson MP has spoken out about her experience of depression, Time to Change, England's most ambitious programme to end mental health discrimination led by charities Mind and Rethink, calls for greater openness about mental health issues at Westminster.
Responding to New Horizons - a shared vision for mental health report published by the Department of Health today (7 December), Sue Baker, Director of Time to Change, England's programme to end mental health discrimination, said:
Time to Change, England's programme to end mental health stigma and discrimination, is deeply saddened to hear of the suicide on Tuesday of German goalkeeper Robert Enke, following a struggle with depression.
What makes this an even bigger tragedy is the suggestion that Enke was too afraid to speak openly about his depression, for fear that it would damage his career as a footballer and his perceived ability as a father.
