Challenging stigma this summer
During the Summer we built on the successful launch of our national anti-stigma campaign in January with a second burst of activity that ran from 13 July – end of August. The summer campaign took successful elements from the January launch alongside two new harder hitting online films and a big PR push. We wanted to continue to engage our audience to get people talking about mental health problems and to carry on chipping away at the myths that surround mental health problems to help end the stigma surrounding it.
What happened?
Over the six weeks of the summer campaign our advertising appeared;
- On TV – our ad was shown on ITV1, ITV2, ITV3 and GMTV
- In press and magazines – including Daily Mail, Express, Sun, National Metro, Mirror, Telegraph, Reveal, Best, Heat and Closer
- Online (banner ads and online films) – websites included Yahoo, MSN, Facebook, The Mirror, The Sun and The Daily Mail
- On Beer mats - in 1000 pubs around England and on washroom door posters
This was all supported by national and local PR and media activity.
Was the summer campaign a success?
Our summer campaign activity has shown some very exciting and encouraging results. Find out more about how we did.
Roadshow
During September and October we also took the anti-stigma message out on the road visiting towns and cities across England with the Time to Change Roadshow.
What can I do?
Whether you're an individual wanting to take action in support of the campaign or part of a larger organisation who want to get more involved there's lots you can do!
What’s next?
We are currently carrying out research and we will be using the research findings and evaluation from the January launch and summer campaign to plan for activity in 2010. There will lots more opportunities for individuals and organisations to get involved so we'll keep you up to date with these plans.
