Mind and body
We all know about the physical health benefits of squeezing some activity into our daily lives, but getting active can boost your mental well-being at the same time.
The power of exercise
Exercise has been proven to increase your energy levels, reduce stress, feelings of depression and anxiety, boost your mood and it is a great way to overcome any negative emotions you are feeling – and that can be after just one session. Some studies have shown that it can have the same antidepressant affect as psychotherapy or group therapy and more and more doctors are being encouraged to prescribe an exercise programme as part of a treatment plan for depression.
Once they start exercising, people often develop a more positive self-image. Achieving goals (even minor ones) and learning new skills can help develop that sense of achievement which makes you feel great, and keep you coming back for more!
But they are not the only benefits. Most importantly exercising should be fun!
Find something you like
Finding something you enjoy will stop exercise feeling like a chore, and you could even discover a new talent. And if you decide to join a sports club or class it is a great way to meet new people. All these factors contribute to your feeling good physically and mentally. You’ll gain a real sense of achievement, releasing feel-good endorphins into your body.
