Using social contact
What is social contact?
Our research shows that attitudes, knowledge and behaviour towards people with mental health problems are more likely to improve when you have the opportunity to learn from someone who has personal experience of mental illness.
We want to create more opportunities for people to meet and learn from each other, either face to face or virtually, using digital media.
Engaging people in conversations about mental health will help us bring about lasting change.
Here are some ways to create social contact opportunities in your local campaign:
Face to Face
Run local events – be creative about how you engage the public. Film showings, human libraries and training sessions are just some ideas.
The key thing is ensuring people with lived experience have the opportunity to interact with the public.
Register your event to receive our FREE Event Box, filled with materials.
Virtual contact
Digital media can be just as effective in changing attitudes. Why not embed the Time to Change You Tube videos into your websites and intranets or join our Facebook discussions and help to spread the campaign to all your contacts!
