Intu Properties intu owns and operates some of the most popular retail led destinations in the UK and Spain with over 35 million visitors a year. intu owns and operates some of the most popular retail led destinations in the UK and Spain with over 35 million visitors a year. We employ over 2,000 people directly and our UK centres are responsible for over 3% of the UK’s retail jobs. We’re passionate about creating compelling experiences that make our visitors smile, help our brand customers flourish and our communities prosper. In July 2019, at his first staff presentation as intu’s new chief executive Matthew Roberts shared his belief as to the importance of good mental health and wellbeing. He told staff that one of their three priorities should be to look after their mental health and that intu would be exploring how it could support in that. Following the announcement over 100 offers of support were received within 48 hours demonstrating the importance to our staff. Led by the corporate affairs and sustainability director, a cross business working group was set up using the TTC pledge as our roadmap. We are at the start of our journey but have a clear, achievable plan and cross business support and are committed at the highest level to making a difference to our colleagues by reducing the stigma around mental health and increasing mental health literacy.

East Kent Mencap East Kent Mencap provide opportunities for adults and children with a learning disability, their families and carers in East Kent. We enable them to achieve the things that they want out of life and to be valued, treated equally, listened to and included. East Kent Mencap is a very caring place to work and all our staff put in a huge amount of effort to supporting our members. However, it is hugely important to recognise and offer support to the staff themselves as well, and that is why we are signing the Time To Change Employer Pledge. We care about our staff’s mental health and wellbeing, and we want them to know that East Kent Mencap not only supports them to do their jobs to the best of their abilities, but promotes their physical and mental wellbeing too. We want to remove the stigma around talking about mental health and facilitate openness and a sense of community across teams. We hope to do this by creating ‘Wellbeing Walls’, a weekly staff newsletter and a virtual ‘Staff Hub’ where we can share information on local events, mindfulness tips and signposting to other services. We also hope to have a ‘Wellbeing Champion’ in each team to assist with activities around awareness days, as well as feedback to us how the Pledge is impacting their team, and what we can do to improve further. |
Perfect Image The Perfect Image team is made up of over 100+ passionate and talented experts. We have 28+ years of experience with designing, delivering and managing intelligent IT solutions that positively impact businesses from a range of industries. Perfect Image is signing this pledge because we are committed to eradicating mental health stigma, improving diversity, and becoming more of an inclusive, judgement-free and supportive workplace. We will welcome all qualified job applicants and openly celebrate diversity by encouraging anyone, from any background, to reach their full potential.
We want mental health issues to be given the same importance and understanding as physical health issues. At every stage of employment, from recruitment and interviews, to sickness and absence, to development and progression and to day-to-day working, we want staff to feel fully supported and championed. This will be ingrained into our culture by reviewing and updating policies and procedures around recruitment and sickness/absences, where necessary. The Perfect Image board has agreed to implement changes to tackle stigma and make our business a safe place for staff. Our CEO, CFO and Sales and Marketing Director have agreed that Perfect Image is no place for judgement and discrimination around mental health. To support, we will assign 3 Mental Health Champions to begin with (2 being fully trained Mental Health First Aiders). They will meet regularly to review and improve our success with changing attitudes towards mental health. We want to make sure that our pledge is making a positive difference to our culture and values so before we begin implementing the pledge we will start with a survey to learn where we currently are, and then when the pledge is established we will periodically evaluate the impact it has had. This will include staff’s attitudes towards mental health in the workplace and whether staff feel there is stigma/discrimination within Perfect Image. We will review EAP data (what/whether services are being used and whether use is increasing), and how many people are reading the EAP newsletter. We will work to make sure staff, from board level to entry level, feel comfortable raising mental health problems and discussing them openly if they feel the need. Staff will not be judged or stigmatised within the organisation and all staff accept, understand and support others in the company who are struggling with mental health problems. We will do this with training and going forward by setting out standardised best practices within manager training. By signing the Time to Change pledge, we hope to educate staff, improve attitudes towards mental health, encourage positive conversations, and to fight stigma and discrimination. Our staff shouldn’t fear judgement or discrimination because of a mental health issue, and we want to empower them with the knowledge of where and how to get help. This will be reflected not only in our policies but also this needs to be a whole organisational change from the ground up; from peers to managers to business owners. |
Hilltop Tots Day Nursery We are a homely nursery in Talke, with spaces only for 6 babies and 10 toddlers. We are a homely nursery in Talke, with spaces only for 6 babies and 10 toddlers. We find that our children and families benefit from a more personal, nurturing and child/family centred approach. By being a smaller setting with less children, we are able to help our children prepare for school within a group setting in an environment that is not as intimidating as larger less homely settings, encouraging them to settle quicker and easier. We also have a high staff to child ratio to ensure that our staff spend more time with our children forming strong bonds and working closely in partnership with our families so that we can provide the best possible individual care for our children and to encourage them to learn, explore, have fun and reach their full potential. We have designed our facilities to inspire children to have fun and enjoy learning. We have lots of unique facilities including our sensory room, which is one of the only sensory rooms in the area, indoor secret reading garden, Sensory Garden, role play village and much more to explore.
We are a new nursery which opened in January 2019. We believe in a home from home personal approach. We believe that a happy and motivated staff team will help to encourage each other, to be happy, have pride in our roles and as a result provide the homely and personal approach that we strongly believe in to help provide the best possible care for our children and families and to help our children reach their full potential. We are committed to supporting our team in every way we can to enjoy their roles, to have a great work life balance and to ensure their and each other’s wellbeing. However we also recognise that this is not always possible and there are lot of factors that can affect a person’s health and wellbeing. Where this is the case, we want to provide the best possible support for our team to help them improve their wellbeing. This is why we are committed to this pledge as we really care about all of our team and want each team member to feel supported and that they can look to us for support when they need it and in turn provide the same level of care and support to each other.
Our approach is always to listen to work together and to learn from each other’s. We are not experts in mental health and wellbeing and we do not have all the answers. But we will listen to the advice and guidance of others and work together to provide the best possible support and to develop our practice to enable us to work together to support each other.
We are all role models, to each other, to our children and families and to ourselves and we believe that we need to set the example, to support each other abd to encourage others to do the same. |
