Waltham Forest is the first funded hub in London following a successful joint bid (Public Health, CREST Waltham Forest and Community Waltham Forest) to national Time to Change campaign to set up a local Time to Change hub.
Times to Change Hubs are networks of local organisations and individuals committed to tackling negative attitudes and behaviours towards people experiencing mental health problems. The hub is lead by the Council and coordinated by Crest Waltham Forest and and supported by wider partners such as:
- Community Waltham Forest
- Leyton Orient Trust
- Harmony Health hub
- Waltham Forest Faith Communities Forum
- Youth health champions
- North East London Foundation Trust (NELFT)
- Waltham Forest Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG)
The Waltham Forest Hub is seeking local people who have lived experience of mental health problems to become Time to Change champions. Time to Change Champions use their experience of mental health problems to change the way people think and act about mental health.
It is recognised that someone with lived experience of mental health telling their story is the great way to challenge mental health stigma and end the shame and isolation around mental health. When you become time to change champion you will receive training from the national Time to Change campaign and ongoing support from the local champions’ network and Hub Co-ordinator.
As a champion you can contribute as much or as little time as you wish or are able to. There is a local Champions Fund available to support champions in their campaign initiatives. The most important aspect is that people who have lived experience of mental health problems feel confident to hold meaningful conversations with people who haven’t, to tackle the misconceptions and negative stereotypes them around mental health.
To become a Time to Change champion or find out more about our campaign please contact Waltham Forest Hub Co-ordinator, Chris O’Sullivan at: email@example.com or
You can also visit the Time to Change Champions Portal for information and examples of champion led initiatives.
