Today the Duchess of Cambridge has spoken about the need to tackle the stigma attached to mental health problems in children and young people. The Duchess of Cambridge recorded a video message for the charity Place2Be, to mark the start of Children's Mental Health Week.
In the message, the Duchess of Cambridge says that the stigma surrounding mental health problems means that many children do not get the help they badly need.
Both William and I sincerely believe that early action can prevent problems in childhood from turning into larger ones later in life.
Jo Loughran, Head of the Children and Young People’s project at Time to Change said:
It’s fantastic to see the Duchess of Cambridge supporting the need to tackle the stigma and discrimination associated with children’s mental health problems, and we hope this will lead to many more open conversations about young people’s mental health. One in 10 young people will experience a mental health problem, that’s three in every classroom - so let’s talk about it like it’s common and everyday; because it is. We feel the Duchess’ comments are a welcome step towards this.
