A dedicated senior nurse from Sheffield has been recognised for her work in tackling stigma and discrimination in the workplace and in her local community in this year’s Breakthrough National Positive Practice in Mental Health Awards.

Kim Parker was crowned the winner of the ‘Recognition for stamping out stigma’ award after being nominated by her colleague Jane Harris from Sheffield Health & Social Care NHS Foundation Trust.

Kim has worked extensively in Sheffield for over thirty years as a mental health nurse as well as working closely with Black and Minority Ethnic communities to address stigma and discrimination around mental health problems. From this work she has made links with mental health services in Uganda to increase awareness and understanding of mental illness in Uganda.

The awards aim to reward the most positive practice in mental health services: statutory, voluntary and independent. They celebrate both services and individuals who are making a real difference. To find out more visit http://www.positivepracticeinmh.com/
