Who are Time to Change Leicester?
We are a social movement aiming to change the way people think and act about mental health in Leicester City.
The Time to Change Leicester Hub is a partnership between Leicester City Council and Richmond Fellowship: Leicester Life Links. Together, we are committed to combatting mental health stigma in schools, homes and workplaces across Leicester.
How does Time to Change Leicester work?
We have been a non-funded (Organic) Hub since 2017, and were fortunate enough to receive funded Hub status in March 2019.
During our work as an Organic Hub, we launched a poster campaign called ‘Stop the Stigma’, encouraging men to speak about their mental health and wellbeing. We also took targeted anti-stigma work to universities, workplaces and community centres across the city.
With our recent partnership with Richmond Fellowship Leicester Life Links, Time to Change has been given a real opportunity to drive the campaign forward with the help of our Champions. Since 1 May we have attended over 15 events with the focus on recruiting champions and having worthwhile conversations with people about mental health stigma.
We recognise the importance of working with a diverse range of individuals and therefore actively encourage participation from all of Leicester’s residents to ensure they feel safe and confident in speaking about their mental health. We do this by holding and attending targeted events in local communities where we can have conversations with people who wouldn’t ordinarily access our service. For example, we were invited to hold a stall at an event organised by the Memon community to celebrate the festival of Eid.
Our focus on spreading the Time to Change message continues with more events as well as a formal launch event which will be taking place this autumn – please check our website for more details.
