Employers wanting to improve attitudes and behaviour in relation to mental health within their organisations have until 9am on 18 May 2020 to apply to become a Time to Change Pledged Employer and submit their action plan.

The Time to Change Employers Pledge was introduced in 2011 and has seen more than 1,500 organisations employing more than 4 million people across England sign up to create a more open and understanding culture around mental health problems. The original goal to reach 850 organisations by March 2019 was surpassed and led to additional funding being made available to continue the pledge for a further 15 months.

While applications to the Pledge will close in May 2020, a package of ongoing support will be provided to Pledged Employers until the end of the year. The Time to Change Employers Team will continue to offer support to pledged employers through free Train the Trainer Champion training, invitations to Masterclass events and the production of campaign activity packs until the end of December 2020.

Jo Loughran, Director of Time to Change said: “We’re incredibly proud of the work we’ve done to support organisations to make a change and start creating more mentally healthy workplaces for more than 4 million employees in England. With one in six British workers experiencing mental health problems, we know there is more work to be done, but we believe the legacy of the Time to Change Employers Programme is an environment in which employers are motivated and supported to do so.”

Time to Change is a growing social movement aimed at changing the way we all think and act about mental health problems. The campaign is funded by the Department of Health and Social Care, Comic Relief and the National Lottery Community Fund and run by charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness.

The Time to Change Employer Pledge has been signed by over 1,500 organisations employing over four million people across England including Tesco, E.ON, British Gas, Ernst & Young, Transport for London, Stagecoach UK, Barclays, Shell, Pepsico, Marks and Spencer, and many NHS trusts, universities and local authorities.

The deadline for any organisation wishing to take the Employer Pledge to submit their Employer Action Plan is 9am on Monday 18 May 2020. Interested employers can find out more by visiting www.time-to-change.org.uk/employerpledge
