Stephen Fry, who has been an incredible anti-stigma ambassador, has spoken openly about his attempted suicide.
We are really glad he's now doing better, and hope that his openness will help others to seek help and support. Many of our supporters have also spoken out about their experiences of bipolar disorder, and about what it’s like to open up and talk about their mental health with people they know. You can read their stories in our blogs section.
Our director Sue Baker will be in the media today talking about what we as a campaign are doing to help people to talk about mental health, so check out our Facebook and Twitter today for the timings. Our blogger Shea, who was interviewed by Sky News about her experience of bipolar and suicidal feelings, has written a blog about what it's like to speak about her mental health in the media.
If you would like to speak to someone about how you’re feeling, the Samaritans are great listeners. You can contact them on 08457 909090 or [email protected].
The 2 mental health charities who set up Time to Change, Mind and Rethink Mental Illness have also commented on Stephen Fry’s honesty in the press today.
How can I help?
Many people are affected by bipolar disorder but they are also affected by stigma and discrimination. You can help change that by adding your name to our pledge wall.
