The fantastic Claudette Lawrence, a Time to Change Champion, has been nominated for a Media Trust Community Champions award for her work to campaign against mental health discrimination - and she needs your vote!
Claudette has been passionately supporting Time to Change for over a year now, and is one of our most active Champions. As well as campaigning in Thamesmead where she lives, spreading the word online and representing Time to Change at community events, in November last year Claudette wrote to the Prime Minister about her experiences of discrimination and was invited to 10 Downing Street as a result.
“I believe we should all be able to be honest about having a mental health problem and I'm passionate about speaking up against discrimination," says Claudette. “I have spoken at lots of events about Time to Change and got my housing association on board to support and promote the campaign too. I'm always striking up conversations about it. The highlight was writing to 10 Downing Street and being invited there to talk to the Prime Minister's Advisor about my experiences."
The Media Trust's Community Champions award is part of a nationwide campaign to encourage the people of Britain to nominate those unsung heroes who've put something back into their communities to help make them better places for us all to live and work.
Claudette has not only helped fight mental health prejudice and support people in her own community, her passion and personality are also an inspiration to many others - so let's all support her by giving her our vote.
Please vote for Claudette on the Community Champions website.
