People with lived experience of mental health problems are at the heart of the Time to Change Campaign. We are keen to work with you to improve how we change attitudes and behaviours towards those of us with mental health problems.

The Champions Virtual Panel
The Champions virtual panel is a group of Champions who influence how we work to change how everyone thinks and acts about mental health problems.
You will receive a survey between once a month to once every three months via email.

Contributing content to the Champion newsletter or for the website
Many Champions have written blogs or contributed content to the monthly Champions newsletter or to the website.

Guest editing the newsletter
Every few months we put out an opportunity for a Champion to guest editor the monthly Champions newsletter.
No previous editing experience is necessary and you will be supported by a member of the team to put together the newsletter. You can either write content yourself or pick content to be included.
Keep an eye out in the newsletter for the next opportunity to guest edit.
Appearing on the Champions podcast
Every month Champions of Time to Change are guests in podcast episodes sharing their personal stories, campaigning tips, challenges and experiences as they tackle mental health related prejudice, stigma and discrimination in their communities.

Participating in focus groups
Champions have participated in focus groups across the country to help influence the work of Time to Change, from discussing Time to Talk Day to the future of the Time to Change campaign.
We will advertise opportunities to be involved in focus groups, when they arise.
Being a media volunteer
I thought becoming a Time to Change media volunteer would be a great way to help change people’s attitudes towards mental illness. Mental health discrimination remains one of the few prejudices that seem to be ‘acceptable’ in the media and in society, and for this reason I thought Time to Change was too important not to help! – Nina
Real life stories of mental health prejudice and people’s experiences of mental illness are vital for the Time to Change campaign.
It’s only through speaking out about stigma and discrimination that we can make others aware of the real challenges faced by people with mental health problems.
Many of our Champions sign up as media volunteers to share their story in the media, when opportunities arise. They are supported by the Time to Change media team.
Being a lived experience advisor
Four of our Champions with lived experience sit on the Time to Change Senior Management Group alongside Mind and Rethink CEO's and the Director of Time to Change. The Lived Experience advisors play an important leadership role in contributing to discussions and making decisions to ensure Time to Change achieves its three main goals:
- Change public behaviour and attitudes towards people with mental health problems
- Help people with lived experience of mental health problems to take action to challenge stigma and discrimination (in their communities, in workplaces, in schools and online)
- People with lived experience report reduced levels of stigma and discrimination (in their personal relationships, in their social lives, at work and at school)
When a position for a Lived Experience Advisor becomes available we will advertise to all Champions.
Sitting on interview panels
Many of our Champions have sat on Time to Change interview panels to recruit new members of staff or award grants to Time to Change hubs. This can involve shortlisting applicants and interviewing alongside Time to Change staff and partners.
We will advertise opportunities to be involved in interviews, when they arise.
Being part of Time to Change hubs
Champions have taken on leadership roles in the Time to Change Hubs across the country. Some of the ways Champions influence change in their local communities are:
- Getting involved in your local hub as a lived experience advisor
- Planning, chairing or participating in Hub meetings
- Assessing applications for the Champions fund award
- Inputting ideas and suggestions for marketing materials
